Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate decreases | The Reflector

Clark County’s latest rate of recent COVID-19 cases dropped by about a quarter in the latest data, as the health department reported the youngest person who has died from the disease in the county since the start of the pandemic.

Clark County Public Health’s July 14 report included 145 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 196.1 per 100,000 reported the prior week. 

The county’s average case rate continues to be lower than the rate statewide, which is 211.1 per 100,000 in the past seven days.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from June 28 to July 4.

The health department reported 901 new COVID-19 cases between July 7 and July 14, fewer than the 1,044 reported between June 30 and July 7. In total, there have been 99,673 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.

Clark County Public Health’s July 14 report included three additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and five additional deaths suspected to be due to the disease, compared to five confirmed deaths and one suspected death reported the prior week. 

The confirmed deaths included a man older than 80, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 50s. The suspected deaths were a man older than 80, two women over 80, a woman in her 60s and a girl between 10 and 19.

The fifth death suspected to be due to the disease was the youngest person ever recorded in Clark County to have died from COVID-19, according to Clark County Public Health data.

The deaths bring Clark County’s total to 859, including 743 confirmed and 116 suspected to be due to the disease.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County rose from the prior week. 

As of July 14, 12.6% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, up from the 11.4% reported on July 7. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients rose to 11.8%, up from the 11.3% reported on July 7.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions saw a slight increase in the latest data. In its July 14 report, the health department reported 10 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, down from 9.8 admissions per 100,000 population reported on July 7.

Total hospital bed occupancy in the county including ICU beds dropped as of July 14. The health department reported 97.7% of hospital beds and 96.1% ICU beds in the county were occupied, compared to 95.2% of all beds and every ICU bed on July 7.

Clark County’s statewide share of confirmed COVID-19 cases stayed about the same while its share of deaths decreased as of July 14 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.9% of cases and 6% of deaths.
